It’s that time of year again! Whether you call it Columbus Day or the newly adopted Native People’s Day it’s the only 3 day weekend in October, well 3 day weekend for some, some of us have to work on Monday.

That being said when there is a three day weekend it leads to traffic, accidents and TOURISTS! Here in the northeast it is the time of the year when the leaves are changing color and that brings the leafers. Leafers are people who come to our towns to see the leaves change color and pay more attention to the leaves than they do their driving. This can cause accidents and road rage.

There are also those who will be headed out to parades and roads will be closed for those parades. When thinking about your holiday travel some research might be in order to make sure that you don’t run into parade routes.

Most importantly schools are closed! This means kids will be out playing, jumping in leaf piles, and participating in parades! Drivers should always be aware of when kids are out. Children don’t always pay attention to traffic, they can run out into the street chasing a toy, ride their bikes haphazardly and well just act like kids. Drivers should always be extra vigilant when driving in residential and school zones.

Enjoy your holiday weekend and as always, DRIVE SAFE!
