Have you ever hitchhiked or picked up a hitchhiker. I must admit I did it when I was younger and thankfully everything was fine but there was one time (after a silly fight with my parents) I decided to run away and well a cop saw me trying to hitchhike, he picked me up and took me home explaining to me that it is illegal to hitchhike or pick up a hitchhiker in NY State.

According to the law “No person shall stand in a roadway for the purpose of soliciting a ride, or to solicit from or sell to an occupant of any vehicle. ”

Now one really has to wonder how often this is enforced. Reports show that really the most dangerous part about hitchhiking is the possibility of being hit by a car! There have been cases where people trying to hitch have been struck dead (mostly st night) and of course there are the horror stories of abductions.
