Did you know that teens have the highest crash rate out of any age group! I know that when I was a teen I believed I was invincible. My friends and I did some pretty dumb things while driving, like late at night pretending we were in England and driving on the wrong side of the road, however fortunately for us we really didn’t have cell phones. There were no smart phones when I was in high school, we still had pagers!

Times have changed and (almost) every teen has a smart phone these days. According to AAA 12 percent of teen crashes involved a cell phone.

This is NOT the ONLY distraction in a car! When you stop and think about the radio, passengers, the AC, smoking…..there is a long list of distractions. While driving the main focus should be on the road, however according to AAA interacting with one or more passengers was the most common distraction for teen drivers 15 percent of the time.

About 963,000 drivers age 16-19 were involved in police-reported crashes in 2013. These crashes resulted in 383,000 injuries and 2,865 deaths, according to data from AAA.
